For the second time in two years, we had the good fortune to be awarded a grant from Telus. In 2015, we received a $5000 grant which we used, coupled with a Victoria Foundation grant, to incubate our first ever employment program for vulnerable youth. Since that time, the program, which we dubbed 'Rise Up', has been succesfully finding employment and work experience opportunities for youth up to age 25 struggling with multiple barriers. The program has been wildly successful and continues to be flooded by referrals for service.
In September of 2017, we applied to Telus for additional funding and were honoured to be chosen, this time for a $20,000 grant. Telus recognized that we are doing good work with a demographic that is very much in need of employment supports. On December 13, we hosted a Christmas dinner at Logan's Pub in Victoria for all of our adults clients that we support through our contracts with Community Living British Columbia. It was at that same event, that Kathy Baan, Community Investment Manager for Telus Victoria, arrived to present us with the 'BIG' cheque.
On behalf of the Board and staff of Phoenix Human Services, we would like to express our sincerest thanks to Kathy and Telus for continuing to support us in doing this very important work. Without the support of Telus and our other community funders, Rise Up simply would not exist and we could not make the kind of impact that we are able to make. Thanks for helping us to make a difference.
