We are pleased to announce that our youth employment program, Rise Up, has been given a new lease on life thanks to the generosity of the United Way. We had been in the process of mothballing the program in the absence of any new funding but happily, we did not have to pack it up. It has been a wonderful first year with major successes in the job market for many of the youth that the program supported. The demand has been over the top and we can't keep up even though we obviously want to serve every youth that comes in the door.
Our goal is to build on the United Way grant and hopefully double our capacity by the end of this year. We have also hired Jessica who will be the key Rise Up staff along with our CLBC-funded employment team of Beth and Ben and our Employment Services Coordinator, Lois.
On behalf of everyone at Phoenix, I want to extend my sincerest thanks to the United Way for choosing to support Phoenix and Rise Up. I know that these decisions are not easy. There are many, many amazing and worthwhile projects and programs that rely on grant funding each and every year. Thanks to major funders like the United Way and Rise Up's start-up funder, the Victoria Foundation, our community can continue to benefit from the good work that we all do.George
